Canon PIXMA iP5000 Review Review

The Canon PIXMA iP5000 is near the top of the line in the PIXMA series, yet falls just under the $200, making it affordable for many consumers. The printer features Canon's next-generation F.I.N.E print head technology along with Canon's ContrastPLUS ink system. The print head and ink system are the same used in Canon's PIXMA MP760 that I reviewed in March, so I expecting a lot from the iP5000.

| It hardly seems like yesterday when I reviewed my first Canon printer, the Canon BJC-8200 , in fact it was about five years ago. The BJC-8200 offered the user the new BCI 6 ink tanks and an ultra small print dot of about 6 pl. I have tested many Canon models since, and today I am taking a look at the PIXMA ip5000 printer. Interestingly it still uses the same BCI 6 set of ink tanks. That's were the similarity ends. Canon now offer an incredible print drop size of 1 picolitre. This small drop size, is almost invisible to the naked eye, and by using such a small drop you can dispense with the lighter colour inks. So lets take a closer look at this printer. |

| Automatic duplexing, dual paper trays with a combined 300-sheet capacity, tiny droplets, and decent speed make the Canon Pixma iP5000 a versatile inkjet option for home users who need both text and graphics output. As a four-color model, it lacks the cred and the quality to compete with real photo printers-despite Canon's Pixma marketing strategy-but its photo-printing quality surpasses that of most SOHO competitors, making it a great general-purpose choice. Pity it lacks built-in networking; we might have bumped up the rating into Editors' Choice territory. |
