HP PSC-1610 All-In-One Review
|
Review Summary
Reader Score: 9.00 (out of 10)
Improvements in IT technology now filter down from top of the range to budget models in only a few months. Nowhere is this more obvious than with printers and All-in-One devices, where last year's cunning innovations are this year's mainstream features. Just to prove this point, HP has released the PSC 1610, a sub-£100 All-in-One aimed at the home user and digital photographer, which includes most of the goodies reserved last year for machines costing over twice as much.

| The HP PSC 1610 All-in-One ($129.99 direct) is the second inexpensive AIO we've seen recently that can print at reasonable speeds with acceptable quality (the $100 Canon Pixma MP130 is the other). Like the MP130, the HP 1610 lacks an ADF (automatic document feeder) and built-in fax features, but it will let you scan to a fax program to use your computer's fax modem. It also scans, copies, and prints-and it prints from PictBridge cameras as well as memory cards, a capability the Canon entry lacks. |

| The shiny, silvery HP PSC 1610 all-in-one printer, scanner, and copier looks good enough to sit in a Tiffany shop, but some of its other attributes are less than stellar. Designed for use in the home, the 1610 all-in-one lacks a fax machine but features a full set of built-in media slots to keep the family photographer happy. Other members of your tribe who need good scans or quick photocopies might be impatient and less satisfied. Still, patience has its rewards, and though not fast, the 1610 is a perfectly capable text printer that excels at color graphics and makes photo printing easy. |
