The P-2000 looks like a pure indulgence when you take it from the box and turn it on for the first time. The 3.8in PhotoFine display is simply sublime. Looking a bit like a bloated XDA, the P-2000 holds a 40GB disk within its finely built form.

| This is the portable card transfer / hard disk (digital wallet type device) done right. Until now there have been several attempts at such units by smaller companies, but all have been flawed in some way. The three main areas in which they have been weak have been with regard to battery life, screen size, and disk size. |

As well as offering 40GB of hard disk storage for your digital camera images and a stunning crystal-clear screen to view them on, the P-2000 can be used as a personal entertainment center', with support for AVI and QuickTime movies and MP3/AAC audio files. It can also display raw files from Epson, Canon and Nikon cameras. So is the P-2000 the ultimate digital camera accessory, and can it really replace a laptop when shooting in the field? | Epson’s brand new P-2000 portable multimedia storage album is just reaching the stores at the time of writing this review. It comprises a 2.5in 40GB battery-powered hard drive, SD/MMC and Compact Flash Type I/II memory card slots and a superb 3.8 inch Photo Fine VGA LCD display. A compact world-standard mains AC adapter/charger is included, along with a desk stand and wrist strap. The P-2000 can store and display a variety of audio and visual format content, from photos, including some camera RAW format files, to MP3 digital music files and digital video movies. Compared to its P-1000 predecessor, the P-2000 is faster, more versatile, eeks more up-time from its battery and it's cheaper too. |

| Epson's P-2000 Multimedia Storage Viewer (147x84x31.4mm, 415g) is an innovative gadget for digital photographers. The two-tone black-and-grey device allows you to store and playback digital photos, movies and music on its built-in, non-removable 40GB hard disk drive (36.5GB available for storage). However, the star of the show is the gorgeous 3.8in. Photo Fine display which provides outstanding definition for superior picture quality under most lighting conditions. If you're serious about viewing or sharing your photos on the move, now is definitely the time to ditch your PDA.

| The Epson P-2000 Multimedia Storage Viewer has done what few products that I have reviewed here on PhotographyBLOG have ever done - made their way into my camera bag! The Epson P-2000 has impressed me so much that I plan to buy one just as soon as Amazon have it in stock. The Epson P-2000 represents the best compromise between having a laptop computer or one of the other portable storage devices on the market. |
