ContrastPlus™ Ink System
Canon's 5-ink ContrastPLUS ink system features four dye-based inks for true 4-color photo printing plus a fifth pigmented black ink for high quality text printing. By incorporating a dye-based black ink cartridge, the contrast of both color and black & white photographs is increased.

The iP5000 also uses individual ink cartridges for each color, rather than one large cartridge for all colors. The advantage is that when one color runs out, you replace only that color, not an entire multi-color cartridge containing unused ink. The PIXMA iP5000 also features a permanent print head, which helps to lower ownership costs.
