Hewlett-Packard Photosmart R607 Review
Review by Elizabeth Giargiari - March 2005

Image Quality Two

HP's Adaptive Lighting Technology
The Photosmart R607 features HP's new "Adaptive Lighting Technology."   This advanced technology optimizes lighting and shadows, allowing the camera to capture a scene closer to the way our eyes see it.   Indoors, where lighting is uneven, Adaptive Lighting Technology provides a more even lighting environment.   When outdoors, Adaptive Lighting Technology balances sun and shade to provide just the right contrast, and ultimately a more natural and pleasing photo.

This flash animation demonstrates the affects of HP's Adaptive Lighting Technology. The first frame was taken with this feature turned off, the second image was photographed with Adaptive Lighting feature turned on "LOW", while the third was taken with Adaptive Lighting set on "HIGH."

Adaptive Lighting also enables better results when using the flash. Flash photography can create uneven lighting, but HP's Adaptive Lighting Technology will help create a more natural and even brightness level.

Under close inspection, Adaptive Lighting Technology does add some artifacts and noise to the enhanced areas, however at standard 4x6" print sizes you'll only notice the benefits of this technology. Ultimately, Adaptive Lighting Technology is a good way to get better quality shots right from the camera - without having to fuss around with photo editing software.

Here are some unretouched photographs right from the camera. Click the links to view the full size images. If you have a photo printer you can make your own prints in order to judge the image quality differences for yourself.
