5. Copier Features & Tests

Photo Copier

The MP760 All-In-One features a built-in COPY mode, which allows you to make photocopies from books, magazines, newspapers, and printed photographs. Using the COPY mode is a great way to make duplicates of photos for friends and family or to make enlargements - all from the front of the printer. The MP760 prints these full color copies with blinding speed. Okay, that might be a slight exaggeration, but a full semi-gloss 8.5"x11" copy took only 2 minutes. That is FAST - even for a standalone printer. The fact that Canon has put that kind of speed into a multi-function printer shows that the multi-function market is maturing. They are the first company to realize that just because a consumer wants the convenience that a multi-function photo printer, doesn't mean they don't want quality and speed.

Two-Sided Magic
The MP760 will copy and print on both sides of a sheet of paper - automatically. I have seen this capability in some laser printers and as an option with some inkjet printers, but I have never seen it as a standard feature. When I first started testing the MP760 I noticed the "two-sided" button on the front panel. I really thought it was a "manual" two-sided print option - Print the first page, then the printer waits for you to put the paper back in - blank side down - to print on the other side. I was amazed to see the printer automatically take the printed page back in - then send it out again with the second side printed. I still really don't know how it does this and I don't really know if I would use this feature a lot, but ever since I was a child I have loved magic. This is technological magic.

I would like to see Canon make their LCD menu's a bit more intuitive.  I was really hoping to see the kind of "Kiosk" style ease-of-use that HP accomplished with their Photosmart 8150.  With that said, there are always going to be some trade-offs, and with the Canon MP760 you will probably have to reference the manual in order to figure out how to do some of the front panel "tricks." However, in return, you'll get a very high quality printer, scanner, and copier that can handle most any type of media with ease, speed, and with image quality that is unsurpassed. The prints from the Canon PIXMA MP760 will also last for generations and won't ruin if a damp finger should touch the print.

The top menu on the left is your status of what the copy feature is setup to do. This screen is displaying 100%, which means the copy will be the same size as the original. The No. 01 is showing that you are going to make ONE copy. The 4"x6" is the paper size selected for the COPY. The light to dark bar is a brightness adjustment that can be controlled using the navigation pad on the front panel. "Photo Plus" is the paper type chosen - in this case automatically - since the paper is 4"x6", and "Fine" mode was also automatically selected when the 4"x6" paper size was chosen. It took me quite a while to figure out that I could NOT change some of these options due to the selected paper type.

Some of the advanced copy features include:

  • Two-Sided Copying:
Scans two pages then prints them out on the
front and back of one sheet of paper - automatically

  • 2 on 1 Copy:
Reduces two document pages to fit onto one page

  • Borderless copying:
Copies color images so that they fill the entire page
    without borders

  • Repeating an image on a page:
Copies an image multiple times onto a single page

  • Creating Stickers (Sticker Copy):
Make stickers from 4" x 6" photos or graphics
    (Uses rear feed only)

  • Fade Correction Copy:
Helps to correct the color and scans documents
that have faded due to the passage of time or other causes
