Second Speaker at Re:Frame - Jasmine Star Talks About Marketing Yourself
Jasmine * (Star, yes *). If you haven't heard of her, think Valley Girl who found her calling in wedding photography. While I love her blog I had a preconcieved notion that there wasn't too much to learn from her. I had believed that most of her successes were more due to her beauty, friendship with David Jay, and her personality than it was about her pictures.
I have to admit that I was very wrong about her. Jasmine Star KNOWS how to market herself. She knows something that most of us don't - that SHE is the most important part of HER business - not her images, not how cool her website is, etc. She knows that in order to be placed head & shoulders above her competition that SHE must connect with her clients. She's personable, yes. She's beautiful, yes. But most of all she is a brilliant marketer. She gets it better than even marketers that have been doing it for years. While I am sure she has learned a lot from David Jay, her personality IS who she is, and she IS a barrel of fun.
Jasmine opened her talk with her back story - about how she left law school because she wasn't fulfilled. After getting married she met her wedding photographer, David Jay, who changed her life. Once married she told her husband that she didn't want to go back to law school and wanted to become a wedding photographer. That first year she booked 3 weddings in October, the following year in 2007 she shot 40 weddings.
Jasmine talked about the importance of putting yourself out there. Let your potential clients in on the secret of who you are, share as much as you possibly can share about you - while still feeling comfortable about the information you're divulging.
She knows who she wants as clients and all of her marketing is centered around that target audience. Her talk was very engaging, very informative, and very honest and real.
