Nikon Introduces The New Coolpix S610/610c, An Ultra Compact Camera Designed to Provide Users Premium Quality and Speed

New COOLPIX Camera Offers Stylish Body, New Easy to Use Shooting Modes and a Fast Start-up Time

MELVILLE, NY (Aug. 7, 2008) – Building on the success of the COOLPIX Style Series of digital cameras, Nikon Inc. is thrilled to introduce the new COOLPIX S610, which blends elegant design and quality construction with high performance and intuitive controls and features. With 10 effective megapixels, a 4x Zoom-NIKKOR wide-angle lens, Optical VR Image Stabilization technology and automated modes like Active Child Mode, the COOLPIX S610 is perfect for consumers looking for a quality camera equipped with powerful photographic tools.

"The S610 is a very fashionable digital camera that packs a lot of technology into a slim and stylish body," said Bill Giordano, general manager marketing, COOLPIX for Nikon Inc. "The S610 delivers premium camera features, an industry leading start-up time, and an elegant look for consumers seeking beautiful pictures from an equally attractive camera."

World's Fastest Start-Up Time (0.7 Seconds)

Featuring immediate response, the new COOLPIX S610 possess the world's fastest* start-up time at a mere 0.7 seconds. The camera also features exceptional automated shooting modes, providing an easy shooting experience for the consumer. The S610 is equipped with Active Child Mode, which automatically tracks the movement of subjects, such as children and pets, to ensure that they are in crisp, clear focus, and Nikon's new Scene Auto Selector Mode, which automatically selects the right scene mode for the image you are shooting for trouble-free photography. The camera will select between six common scene modes: Close-up, Portrait, Landscape, Backlight, Night Portrait, and Night Landscape. Adding to the compositional freedom that the S610 offers, Smile Mode can be set to automatically take photos when a subject smiles and Food Mode makes it easy to capture beautiful pictures of cuisine, opening the door to new creative possibilities.

Optical VR Image Stabilization Technology

The new COOLPIX S610 comes equipped with three technologies to producesharp images; Optical VR image stabilization technology, which is designed to counteract the effects of camera shake in low-light situations, ensuring that subjects come out sharp and crisp; high ISO capabilities up to 3200, providing users with added power to shoot clearer, more natural-looking photos in a wide array of settings; and Motion Detection, which automatically selects higher ISO sensitivity settings to enable faster shutter speeds to compensate for camera shake and subject movement.

Big, Bright High-Resolution 3.0-inch LCD

Enhancing the S610's elegant camera design is a huge, bright high resolution 3.0-inch LCD monitor with a wide-viewing angle of 170 degrees and anti-reflection coating, ideal for photo sharing and composing. Combining the huge LCD monitor with 10 megapixels of sharp resolution and a wide-angle 4x Zoom-NIKKOR lens, the S610 has the right photographic tools needed to deliver outstanding image quality.

Face-Priority AF,  In-Camera Red-Eye Fix™, and D-Lighting Technology

By joining the COOLPIX line, the S610 inherits Nikon's unique image innovations including: enhanced Face-Priority AF, which automatically finds and focuses on up to five faces within the frame; In-Camera Red-Eye Fix™, which can automatically detect and correct red eye in a photo; and D-Lighting, which compensates for excessive backlight or insufficient flash in images.

The new S610 comes bundled with the COOLPIX Software Suite for editing, organizing and sharing images. The camera is also compatible with SDHC cards, and utilizes the new slim EN-EL12 rechargeable Li-ion battery. The S610 will also be featured in new ultra-cool colors: Midnight Black, Deep Red and Smoke Gray.

Nikon COOLPIX S610c/S610 Feature Highlights

Automated and optimized shooting modes

In addition to Active Child Mode and Nikon’s new Scene Auto Selector, Smile Mode also helps enhance the carefree shooting experience by faithfully recording precious smiles in the brief instants they appear. And Food Mode makes it easy to capture delectable close-ups of cuisine at the dinner table.

Optical VR image stabilization that delivers clearer results

Optical lens shift VR (Vibration Reduction) is field proven technology originally developed for Nikon SLR camera lenses. It counteracts the effects of camera shake in lower light or when shooting unsteady subjects to help achieve sharper results and allow shooting at shutter speeds as much as three steps slower without blurring the image. Furthermore, Motion Detection automatically selects a higher ISO sensitivity setting to enable faster shutter speeds, and reduces the possibility of image blur for sharper pictures.

Built-in wireless connectivity to my Picturetown (COOLPIX S610c)

Nikon’s my Picturetown service can be accessed easily using the built-in Wi-Fi support of the COOLPIX S610c. my Picturetown offers “anytime, anywhere” access that allows uploading, categorization and sharing of photos directly from the camera. Its Picture Bank function provides secure storage, while Picture Mail can trigger email notifications to friends anywhere.
