When you shoot a photo with a digital camera, the file size is determined by the resolution of the image and the compression applied to it (as you learned in the previous two articles). So if you've shot a 3 megapixel image of a scenic lake and wish to email it to your friends, you sure don't want to send them a copy of the original image unless you want to get some hate mail in return.
