Selective Focus with Photoshop

Published by:  EZ Learn Photography
Tutorial Preview:

Selective focus is one of the main techniques used by professionals to simplify their photographs and focus attention on the intended subject of the picture. It can eliminate a distracting background by throwing it out of focus. In this article, NYI's resident digital guru, Jim Barthman, starts by reviewing what selective focus is, how it has traditionally been used by professionals to add punch to their pictures, and how you can create the same effect with pictures taken with digital cameras.

Here's a way to simplify and enhance your photos through a process known as selective-focus. In photography, focus refers to the clarity of the image. Selective focus isolates the subject by rendering the background distinctly out-of-focus. With nothing to see in the background, the image is simplified and the viewer is immediately drawn toward the main attraction - the subject.
