Creating Pro Portraits Digitally ... In Six Easy Steps

Published by:  Photographic
Tutorial Preview:

Most of us don’t have the luxury of our own professional studio or studio equipment, so we make do with the gear we have. That doesn't mean you have to settle for less than professional looking results with your portraits, though. With a few simple steps, your digital image and the appropriate software can be used to create portraits that anyone would be hard pressed to tell apart from one done in the studio.

Of course, some equipment will work better than others. An external flash can make a huge difference in the quality of lighting, especially compared to the built-in flash of most point-and-shoot cameras. All is not lost, though, if this is your only flash. If you’re shooting indoors, common room lights can be used to lessen the need of on-camera flash, and a simple backdrop can be used to make editing later a bit easier. Other than studio lighting setups, the biggest advantages a studio has over the typical home setup are space and the ability to control the background. In this article, I'll show you how to use multiple images to give the illusion that you were shooting on a pro set.
