FEATURED WEB TUTORIAL: B&W
A Black & White Primer

When I began teaching photography workshops years ago, I noticed that students were frequently getting poor results when exposing black-and-white film. They often got images where shadows lacked information and the highlights were blocked. For example, a landscape with light and shadow wouldn’t reveal much detail in the shadows and if there were clouds in the sky, they showed little texture or form - they were simply shapes. Students were disappointed with the results, and were quickly becoming disenchanted with black-and-white photography.
