Whatever the season, fireworks have always been used to mark big events. For example, both these photos won prizes in a Millennium Madness contest we ran back in 2000. Andrezy Walter of Poland won First Prize for his lovely photograph of Paris' Eiffel Tower lit up with New Year's fireworks.
