Description:

With a stunning combination of resolution, speed and control, all housed in a rugged, elegant new black enclosure, the PowerShot G5 takes the lead as Canon's flagship PowerShot. With a host of improvements and professional features, the PowerShot G5 will exceed the expectations of even the most discerning photographer.

5.0 Megapixel CCD

The PowerShot G5 uses a 5.0 Megapixel CCD sensor, providing a file with 2,592 x 1,944 pixels for stunning clarity and color in even your biggest enlargements. Primary color filters reduce noise while enhancing the natural colors of the scene photographed.

4x Optical, 4x Digital, 16x Combined Zoom

At the heart of the PowerShot G5 is Canon’s powerful 4x optical, 4x digital zoom lens. With a 35mm equivalent range of 35 – 140mm, a large maximum aperture of f/2.0 – 3.0, and macro focusing down to 2 inches, there’s virtually nothing this lens can’t do. A 4x digital zoom feature extends the telephoto capabilities even further, effectively making it a 16x zoom.

12 EOS-based Shooting Modes

For the ultimate in control and flexibility, the PowerShot G5 has 12 EOS-based Shooting Modes, including two user-defined custom modes so you'll get the perfect exposure in any situation.

User controls and stores all settings for preferred effects.

The camera sets all parameters for the user.

The user controls every aspect of the shot, including aperture and shutter speed.

The camera chooses a large aperture, ensuring focus on the subject and a blurring of the background.

Similar to auto, but user has access to exposure compensation features.

The camera chooses a small aperture for greater depth of field.

The user selects the shutter speed, and the camera finds the appropriate aperture. With slow exposure times, Canon’s noise reduction system activates to ensure low image noise.

For sunset or nightlife shots, the camera exposes for the background, and uses slow-sync flash for the subject.

The G5 is capable of movie clips with sound up to three minutes long that users can edit and replay right on the camera.

The user defines the aperture, and the camera chooses the corresponding shutter speed.

Users can create large panoramas by aligning abutting compositions.

DIGIC Imaging Processor and iSAPS Technology

The G5's DIGIC Imaging Processor revolutionizes how you shoot digital by allowing the camera to process images faster and improving the accuracy of the autofocus. DIGIC also reduces the effects on noise in your images.

iSAPS Technology is an entirely new scene-recognition technology developed for digital cameras by Canon. Using an internal database of thousands of different photos, iSAPS works with the fast DIGIC Imaging Processor to improve focus speed and accuracy, as well as exposure and white balance.

Enhanced Movie Mode

The PowerShot G5 can take movie clips with sound up to three minutes long. With new advanced playback features, you can edit, fast forward, rewind and more, right in the camera.

The PowerShot G5 achieves sharp focus with both single and continuous focusing systems, perfect for any photography from sports to still life. With two types of AF, including FlexiZone, where the user defines the focus point anywhere in the composition, and a unique focus-bracketing feature, the Powershot G5 can achieve perfect focus anywhere.

Intelligent Orientation Sensor

Among the many convenient features of the PowerShot G5, the Intelligent Orientation Sensor can tell whether you shot your photo vertically or horizontally. It automatically adjusts AF, AE and white balance and makes sure that your photos are oriented correctly when you download them to your computer.
