Description:

The first time you hold this camera, you'll think it was made for your hand. Canon further refines its EOS design to create the world's lightest digital SLR body. Beautiful images, quick response, easy handling, and convenient features are smoothly integrated into a dynamic architecture. HIGH-PERFORMANCE features like high-precision 8.0-megapixel CMOS sensor, refined DIGIC II imaging engine, and responsive 3fps continuous shooting are all configured into this compact chassis. And these are just some of the advances that sustain Canon’s reputation for comfort and reliability among professionals and non-professionals.

The new EOS DIGITAL REBEL XT is the digital SLR to choose when you’re looking for professional-level performance with comfortable simplicity. One essential reason is the high-sensitivity 8.0-megapixel CMOS sensor. Because it captures a large amount of light, the EOS DIGITAL REBEL XT delivers highly precise and faithful photos. Another reason is the exclusive imaging technology at the heart of Canon cameras for fine detail and natural color reproduction. And as the lightest digital SLR in the world*, this camera maneuvers easily with a response that sets the EOS series apart from any other.

High-performance 8.0-megapixel CMOS sensor
Canon's newly developed large-size CMOS sensor outperforms everything in its class, delivering an effective 8.0-megapixel resolution, superior tonal range, high sensitivity, and excellent print quality. From accelerated signal reading and wide ISO speed range to effective suppression of noise and false colors, this imaging sensor meets the highest expectations of professional and amateur alike. Its substantial image size (22.2 x 14.8mm) realizes an effective angle of view that's 1.6 times the focal length factor of Canon EF lenses.

Sophisticated DIGIC II imaging engine
DIGIC II, Canon's advanced imaging technology, processes signals from the EOS DIGITAL REBEL XT CMOS sensor at extremely high speed for photos of exceptional quality. Color reproduction is extremely natural and details are incredibly precise, especially with gradations in the highlight areas. Canon's highly efficient imaging engine accelerates signal processing while consuming less power, resulting in highly responsive user-friendly operation.

Continuous shooting: 3 frames per second (fps) for up to 14 shots
The accelerated image processing of DIGIC II combines with high-speed data reading from the imaging sensor to achieve fast continuous shooting at 3fps for maximum bursts of 14 shots -- even in JPEG Large/Fine. At this speed, the highly responsive EOS DIGITAL REBEL XT is equipped to help you seize every chance for that "perfect" shot. Another efficient use of your time is the fast transfer of image data enabled by its compatibility with USB 2.0 High-Speed.

Remarkable startup time
Though film-based 35mm cameras seem faster or more responsive, these days that's virtually no longer true. When those rare photo opportunities do arise, the EOS DIGITAL REBEL XT can shoot just 0.2 seconds (approx.) after the power is switched on. With this advanced SLR in hand, you'll not only feel but be ready -- up to speed and fully agile -- to portray a world of fast-changing images.

New Direct Print button for further convenience
Why always connect your camera to a PC? Wouldn't it be convenient to print out photos immediately after shooting without hooking up to a PC? The newly added Direct Print button, doing double duty as LCD panel illumination button, now lets you simply connect to a wide variety of printers -- from professional large-size to card-size -- and print out the photos you just shot. Useful for the professional and non-professional alike.

Selectable AF and metering modes, full compatibility
The EOS DIGITAL REBEL XT assures smooth operation, flexibility and personal expression. Users can manually select three auto-focus (AF) modes (One-Shot AF, AI Servo AF, and AI Focus AF), as well as 7 AF points, by cross-key shortcut. Fine exposure control comes from direct user access to 3 metering modes (evaluative, partial, and center-weighted average) and metering ranges from EV 1-20. For additional flexibility, the EOS DIGITAL REBEL XT has full compatibility with Canon’s world-renowned series of EF lens lineup, including EF-S lenses and the high-precision E-TTL II autoflash.

Compatible accessories to enjoy the Canon advantages and enhance your shooting style include the following. The new dedicated L-shaped Battery Grip BG-E3 accommodates two NB-2LH battery packs -- just the thing for long outdoor shoots while supporting six AA-size batteries. And the Semi-Hard Case EH18-L protects the camera with EF-S18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 lens attached while revealing the LCD panel and controls for quick and easy operation.

Monochrome setting and its processing parameters
Operating the EOS DIGITAL REBEL XT is a simple choice of manageable options. One option is to let the camera automatically apply standard parameters for vivid image or post processing. Your creativity may be very well inspired by monochrome shooting (B/W) mode. This newly featured mode is enabled by its internal digital processing capability. Selectable effects such as contrast, sharpness, and filter effect will further stimulate your artistic instinct. In fact, contrast and sharpness can be set up to 5 levels. All parameters are adjustable on the rear LCD menu and, once registered, may be instantly called up for any shooting condition.

All the applications you need are here
The EOS DIGITAL REBEL XT comes loaded with bundled software for varied usage. When it comes to photo browsing and editing, the package has ZoomBrowser EX for Windows and ImageBrowser for Macintosh. Even first-time photographers will enjoy the privilege of accessing this user-friendly software, which conveniently supports all photo development processes from data capturing to printing -- a feature everyone can appreciate immediately after opening the package. For pros and amateurs who like to tweak by hand, Digital Photo Professional is a popular choice also bundled for RAW image editing, as well as ArcSoft Photo Studio for handy retouching of photo works.

* Note: The Digital Rebel XT and EOS 350 Digital are the same products. In the U.S. the Digital Rebel XT label is used.
