"Hitachi's new hybrid camcorders are intended to make things simpler for parents shooting dance recitals and Little League games.

They have an internal hard drive to directly capture video, plus a DVD drive so you can copy a highlight reel from your footage onto a miniature DVD. You are liberated from connecting the camcorder to a TV.

Yet for all its flexibility, the $600 DZ-H300A model I've been testing falls short. The run-of-the-mill video is especially grainy in low light. It's about as far from high-definition as you can get, though you can shoot in HDTV-like widescreen."
