"DEVOTEES of the hobby known as scrapbooking spent an estimated $3 billion last year on patterned paper, ribbons, stamps, brads and fabrics. They also spent untold hours combining these things with family photographs to make personal albums.
Claudine Jackson was one such person. But Ms. Jackson, an optometrist and mother of two in Carlisle, Pa., said she found that the hobby was taking too much time. "When I get a half-hour, I have to move quickly," she said, adding, "It would take that long just to get my materials out."
Three years ago, Ms. Jackson started creating layouts of her books on her computer. Now she produces almost all her scrapbooks digitally, printing the pages as photographs that are 8 inches by 8 inches or 12 inches by 12 inches. She also burns the scrapbooks on CD's, for safekeeping or to share. "It was quicker for me," she said. "I could start and stop at a moment's notice."....Read Complete Article
