Lenses; Great New Optics For Digital And 35mm SLRs

Article Summary

"Every year the PMA Show becomes increasingly digital in its scope, with fewer exhibitors of "traditional" products. The 2006 show confirmed this trend but surprisingly, most of the new lenses (of familiar brands) are of the multi-platform type: suitable for 35mm cameras and digital SLRs with small (APS-C size) or full-frame sensors. That may not prove to be a long-term trend because the "digital-only" lenses are more compact and lighter, so they're generally more appealing to owners-and new buyers-of digital SLR cameras with that sensor size. Now that Panasonic is also marketing a digital SLR, the Lumix DMC-L1, with the Four Thirds size sensor previously used only by Olympus, we're starting to see an increasing number of lenses in the "FT" mount. Sigma already made a few zooms intended for Olympus EVOLT cameras but is becoming more aggressive in expanding the FT line. That's no problem because both multi-platform and "digital-only" lenses work well with Four Thirds sensor cameras."....Read Complete Article

Portable Storage; Hard Drives, CD/DVD Burners, And Flash Drives
"Today's high-resolution digital cameras eat up lots of memory. High-capacity memory cards cost as much as a portable hard drive, so why not use a portable storage device and transfer card memory to that drive? Portable hard drives are battery-driven and most employ a 2.5" disk drive, while a few use the more expensive 1.8" drive. As an alternative......

Memory Cards; Faster & Higher Capacity
"If there's anything you can count on with digital products, it's faster speeds, higher capacities, and lower costs. Nowhere is this truer than with memory cards. There was plenty of news from a variety of vendors.

SanDisk doubled the capacity of several of their most popular cards, including the Extreme III line of cards to 8GB in CompactFla......

Turn Off Your Flash For Digital Images: Continuous Light Sources Make A Comeback
There's an old photographer's joke that goes: "If God invented light, then the devil invented fluorescent light." How times do change. How Photographers Are Making The Internet Work For Them Using Blogs
During the recent silly season of national electioneering, blogs and bloggers appeared on the radar screens of America's media in major newspapers and on TV.
