Digital photography has come a long way in the last few years. Making minor changes to a photograph, with the intention of improving it, is simplified by using a computer. Terms like shutter speed and aperture have been joined by white balance, color correction and sharpening.
Manipulation always has been part of the photographic process. However, in the past, making changes to a photo was tedious. Ansel Adams made burn and dodge household words to photo buffs. Repairing, or simply enhancing a picture using these methods, was a technique that was familiar to anyone who developed their own black and white photos.
